The past two weeks we have begun learning about American Drama Series for our exam at the end of the year. First of all we watched the pilot of House of Cards (American Political Drama Series) which aired on February 1, 2013, when it was released along with the rest of the first season on Netflix it was written by series developer Beau Willimon and directed by David Fincher. The episode also earned 3 Emmy nominations. Frank Underwood is an ambitious Democratic congressman, he helped ensure the election of the Presiden who promised to appoint Underwood as Secretary of State. However, the president will not honor the agreement and will instead nominate someone else, Underwood and his wife Claire, an environmental activist, make a pact to destroy Kern. When Zoe Barnes (a journalist) makes her resources available, 'she becomes one of their pawns'. Kevin Spacey is widely noted for his character's direct address to the audience (breaking the fourth wall).
We also began watching Breaking Bad which is another American Drama Series however is based around a man who begins to cook crystal meth for financial aid. the production companies for the show were High Bridge Productions, Gran Via Productions, Sony Pictures Television. The pilot was released on January 20th 2008, directed by Vince Gilligan, written by Vince Gilligan and starring Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul and Anna Gunn. Just after his 50th birthday party, chemistry teacher Walter White's is diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, in order to support his pregnant wife and disabled son, he partners with Jesse Pinkman, a former student of his. They turn an old RV into a meth lab, their first attempt at cooking the meth goes horribly as Jesse introduces Walter to his old drug dealers. Overall over the past two weeks I have gained subject knowledge onto the TV series I will be studying for my end of AS examination. |
